GBV Social Worker

Job Purpose:

The social worker’s role is to prepare and implement GBV curricula for beneficiaries. The social worker is responsible for planning and coordinating with the supervisor to reach the target population by providing awareness-raising sessions on gender-based violence in the targeted areas and camps.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Promote and introduce the GBV services to target groups.
  • Plan and conduct GBV awareness sessions for beneficiaries at the target camps, community centers, and outreach field level.
  • Identify opportunities for awareness raising, whether at a community center or other safe space. Plan the sessions to include children or children and caregivers.
  • Organize focus group discussions on relevant information when needed.
  • Engage men and boys within the GBV Program and promote Gender Equality.
  • Contribute and regularly update service mapping of service providers within the area of intervention to ensure that GBV caseworkers are informed of all relevant and available services.
  • Ensure safe identification and referral for beneficiaries to GBV case managers.
  • Attending requested training and meetings when available or requested in coordination with the GBV specialist and/or program coordinator.
  • Prepare and submit reports and documentation for activities in a timely manner and report directly to the GBV project officer.
  • Plan, monitor and follow up on the work of outreach volunteers on the field.
Note: The above-mentioned key responsibilities/accountabilities are illustrative ones. Other future responsibilities/accountabilities may be assigned to the job depending on the department’s organizational chart.
Qualification (Education – Work Experience):
Essential:
    • Bachelor’s degree in psychological counseling, Psychology, Social Sciences, Law, or any other related field.
    • Previous practical experience in the same job position in an NGO.
    • Commitment to the basic morals of working with vulnerable people and respecting confidentiality.
    • Ability to work independently and with a team at the same time.
    • Ability to conduct individual and group awareness-raising sessions and group activities, specifically in GBV issues.
Desirable:
    • Master’s degree in psychology or Social Sciences.
    • More than three years of professional experience in the same position.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Previous experience working with GBV survivors and previous experience working in MHPSS is a plus.

    • Experience in working with NGOs.
    • Good experience in dealing with archives.
