Job Purpose:
The Sensitization Worker will work within a community center in Afrin under the direct supervision of the Protection Officer, applying gender and protection mainstreaming during program activities and using approved referral pathways to address cases of gender-based violence and child protection. The tasks include conducting awareness sessions targeting women, men, boys, and girls, with a focus on protection messages against sexual exploitation and abuse, and raising awareness about protection rights and reporting mechanisms. Additionally, the worker will contribute to improving beneficiaries’ access to reporting and complaint channels, ensuring a prompt and appropriate response to any protection-related violations or concerns, in close collaboration with the Protection Officer and the program team to promote a safe and supportive environment for all.
Key Responsibilities:
- Working with the protection team to ensure the application of gender and protection mainstreaming in all programs and activities, and recording individual cases requiring intervention in the field of gender-based violence and child protection.
- Participating in delivering training courses on protection and gender mainstreaming, and training organization staff on protection from sexual exploitation and abuse within the community center.
- Preparing the necessary materials and requirements for training courses and awareness sessions related to protection topics.
- Planning and conducting awareness sessions for beneficiaries on protection from sexual exploitation and abuse, child safeguarding, and gender-based violence, and organizing focused discussions to raise awareness about protection topics.
- Contributing to the development of plans to implement awareness-raising sessions for youth and adults in camps, local communities, and beneficiary gathering centers, in line with the protection action plan.
- Enhancing service mapping and ensuring the effectiveness of referral mechanisms for child protection and gender-based violence issues.
- Identifying and referring the most vulnerable groups (women, men, girls, boys) to integrate them into project activities according to selection criteria, and providing necessary support to survivors of gender-based violence, child protection, and general protection cases.
- Proposing solutions to challenges facing project implementation and working with all stakeholders (beneficiaries, local councils, authorities, suppliers) to ensure the achievement of protection objectives.
- Submitting regular oral and written reports on implemented activities, collected data, and identified or monitored cases to the Protection Officer.
- Performing any other tasks related to the nature of the job as directed by the supervisor.
Qualification (Education – Work Experience):
Essential:
- Intermediate institute or university degree in Psychological Counseling / Psychology, Law, Social Sciences, Sociology, Education, Law, or any other related field of study.
- Previous work experience in the same position in a humanitarian organization.
- Basic proficiency in using email and filling beneficiary information on electronic forms.
- Commitment to the basic ethics of working with vulnerable individuals and respecting confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team at the same time.
- Ability to conduct individual and group awareness sessions and group activities on general protection and child protection issues.
Desirable:
- Excellent experience in project management (planning, implementation).
- Good background in protection projects.
- At least one year of professional experience in the same position.
- Good level of English.
